Have Fun, Meet People, Play APA Pool!

Talk to your friends, neighbors, and co-workers. You'll find that they either play in the APA or know someone who does. It'll surprise you! Clerks, secretaries, janitors, lawyers, chiropractors, doctors, waitresses, truck drivers, bank tellers, and even school teachers ... all play pool in the APA Pool League.

Over one fourth of APA members are female.

The APA is the World's Largest Amateur Pool League with more members than all other amateur leagues combined. Nationally, the APA currently boasts over 270,000 members (and growing).

Think you're not good enough to play in the APA? Consider this:

75% of APA members are beginner to intermediate players, meaning you don't have to be a Pool Pro to play.

And with the APA's Equalizer® Handicap System everyone has a nearly equal chance of winning.

APA Breaking News
Regionals Results!

03/08/2010 07:50:18 AM

Jule Williams and Bill Boadway did it! They won their boards in Macon this weekend and a trip to the APA National Singles Championship in April!

Jule won the skill level 4-5 board in 9 Ball. She made it look easy, calmly approaching each match, rack and ball until the job was done. BUT, those of you that play in our various tournaments know easy is not the word! Determination (and a little luck)is what it takes to see it to the end.

Bill won a skill level 5 board in 8 Ball. Bill began the tournament as a 5 and was shooting very well. He was moved up to a 6 early in the tournament and was not rattled a bit. In fact, Bill has been asking to be a 6 and was very close at the beginning of the tournament. So many let it get in their head when their skill level increases but Bill stayed focused. In the finals match, Bill was down 3 games and came back to win 5 in a row for that 1st place spot!

Cory Commons, Fred Markley and Lance Adkins took 2nd on their boards. They played great and should be very proud of their accomplishment.

Thank all you West Georgia players that through your love of the game and great sportsmanship made this past weekend a very good one indeed.

Defensive Shots!

11/01/2009 10:40:31 PM

Here's a great video from Terry Bell, founder of the APA. This video explains what is and is not a defensive shot. If your team is not marking defensive shots then you are not keeping score accurately.

The innings portion of the scoresheet is not subjective and should match. However, there is a subjective element to defensive shots. Mark it as you see it, the scoresheets do not have to match. While there are matches that do not have defensive shots, teams that never mark them stand out like a sore thumb, please keep your scoresheets as accurately and honestly as you can and if you have questions please post or give me a call.

Please encourage your players to inform the scorekeepers when they have attempted a defensive shot.

AND, just to let me know you are aware of the defensive shot portion of the scoresheet, please mark "NO D" or put a 0 in that portion if your opinion there where none. That tells me you are watching for defensive shots and understand the importance of marking them.

Just a Reminder! Skill Level Evaluations...

10/14/2009 11:31:41 AM

The Equalizer Handicap System is by far the BEST in the industry. As with any great system, checks and balances are in place to insure the effectiveness of the system and to continue to improve it.

One of the tools that this league has in place is a "Skill Level Evaluation" here on the website.

http://apawestgeorgia.net/forms/sl_evaluation.asp

Please use this form if you feel a player is rated improperly. These submissions are reviewed twice a week. (Although many weeks, there are none, because the equalizer works, if teams are keeping score properly!)

The player that submits the form will not receive any response from this league office concerning the outcome of the review. It is the policy of this office and that of the National Office that we will not discuss player's handicap with anyone other than the player.

On another note, please remember that comments concerning another player's handicap to someone on your team, to the other player or his teammates ARE Poor Sportsmanship. Please report these instances by email, through your sportsmanship ratings or by using the form here

http://apawestgeorgia.net/forms/sportsmanship_complaint.asp

Most of the above situations are few and far between but some folks focus on the bad...Let's all focus on the good and take the appropriate steps to make this league better than it already is!

Stepping off soapbox for now!
